How do I drink it?
The whole screen is your glass. Raise the phone to your lips and tip it back, just like a real glass: the beer flows towards the rim and drains as you drink. Hold it level and it just sloshes.
How do I get another beer?
- When the glass is empty, tap it (“Tap to refill”) and a fresh one pours.
- Double-tap at any time for a fresh pour, even before you've finished.
- Turn on Auto-refill in Settings to get a new one a few seconds after you finish.
- Or let a stranger do it: see Refill a Friend.
What else can I do with it?
- Tap the big bubbles in the foam to pop them.
- Shake the phone to whip up the foam.
- After you drink, the glass stays wet, with droplets and drips (you can switch this off).
- Long-press the beer, or tap the gear button, for Settings.
I can't hear anything.
Sounds stay quiet when your phone is on silent, so check the Ring/Silent switch or Action button, and the volume. Also check that Sounds is on in the app's Settings, under Sound & Haptics. Double Beers mixes with any music that's playing rather than stopping it.
Does it work on iPad?
Yes, on iPad with iPadOS 18 or later. Tilt the iPad to drink, the same way. You get one beer; two-beer mode is for iPhone Duo.
Is there any real beer or alcohol involved?
No. Double Beers is a toy: a beer simulated in code. It doesn't sell or promote alcohol or any brand. If you drink for real, please drink responsibly.
Two beers on iPhone Duo
How does two-beer mode work?
- Closed: one beer on the cover screen.
- Open: the beer you were holding becomes two, one on each half of the screen, so you and a friend each drink a beer.
- Tilt left to drink the left beer and tilt right to drink the right one. Tap either empty glass to refill it.
- Fold it again and the two pour back into one.
It switches by itself as you open and close the phone; there's nothing to turn on. On single-screen iPhones and on iPad you get one beer.
Refill a Friend
What is Refill a Friend?
- When your glass runs dry, it shows up on a public feed of empty glasses. The feed shows your Game Center name (or “A Drinker”), beers finished, Karma and how long you've been empty.
- Anyone using Double Beers, anywhere, can tap Refill on your glass. When they do, a fresh beer pours for you, and they earn a point of Karma.
- You can do the same for them.
Open it with the people button next to the gear, or from Settings › Friends › Refill a Friend.
The people and gear buttons (top right) keep out of the way of the beer: they show for a few seconds after the app opens, after each pour, and while a glass stands empty. Any other time, long-press the beer to open Settings.
What do I need?
- iCloud: be signed in on the device. Refills go through iCloud.
- Game Center (optional): signing in puts your name on the feed and on the leaderboards. Without it you're “A Drinker”.
- An internet connection.
- Notifications (optional): with them on, you hear about a refill even when the app is closed. The app asks the first time you open Refill a Friend.
The feed is empty, or says “Everyone's beer is full”.
That means nobody's glass is empty right now. Glasses stay on the feed for up to 24 hours after they run dry, or until someone refills them. Pull down to check again.
If the feed says Sign in to iCloud or No connection instead, sign in to iCloud in the Settings app, or check your connection, then tap Try Again.
What happens when someone refills my beer?
Your glass comes off the feed and a fresh beer pours, with a note saying who poured it. If the app is closed and notifications are on, you'll get “🍺 Sam refilled your beer!”. Open the app and your beer is waiting.
Can I refill the same glass twice?
No: one refill per empty glass. The button reads “Refilled” until that person pours and runs dry again.
What's Karma, and where are the leaderboards?
- Karma is one point for every refill you give.
- There are two Game Center leaderboards: Karma and Beers Finished. Open them from Leaderboards at the top of Refill a Friend, or from Settings › Friends.
- Your Karma follows your Game Center account. If you reinstall, it comes back from the leaderboard.
My name shows as “A Drinker”.
You're not signed in to Game Center. Sign in from the Settings app (Game Center), then reopen Double Beers. The name you'll appear under is your Game Center nickname.
Someone has an offensive name.
Email support@doublebeers.com with the name and roughly when you saw it, and we'll look into it.
Settings
What can I change?
Long-press the beer, or tap the gear button, to open Settings:
- Beer: Lager, Pilsner, Amber Ale, Hazy IPA, Hefeweizen or Stout. A new head size shows on the next pour.
- Head (barely there to towering) and Fizz (nearly flat to champagne).
- Feel: Calm, Natural or Lively waves.
- Wet glass: droplets and drips after drinking.
- Sounds, Burp when finished and Haptics.
- Auto-refill and Keep screen awake.
- Friends: Refill a Friend, Leaderboards, Share My Empty Glass.
- Stats: beers finished, and Reset Stats.
- Reset All Settings under About. This keeps your stats.
My screen keeps sleeping, or never sleeps.
Keep screen awake is on by default while the beer is open. Turn it off in Settings to let the screen sleep as usual.
Privacy and your data
What does Double Beers know about me?
Very little. There are no ads, no analytics, no tracking and no accounts to create, and the beer runs entirely on your device. Refill a Friend keeps your glass's details in a public iCloud database that everyone using the app can read: your Game Center nickname, beers finished, Karma and when your glass went empty. The full details are in the privacy policy.
How do I delete my data?
Email support@doublebeers.com with your Game Center nickname and roughly when you last used Refill a Friend. We'll delete your records and confirm within 30 days. Deleting the app on its own doesn't remove what's in the public database. See the privacy policy.
